Judge Jane Gallina-Mecca

Judge Jane Gallina-Mecca

Court: Superior Court, Family Part
Location: Bergen County, New Jersey

Judge Jane Gallina-Mecca is widely viewed as the embodiment of family court corruption in New Jersey. Critics allege she systematically silences abuse disclosures by children and protective parents while rewarding abusers and their counsel. Litigants say she gags testimony, seals records, and disregards due process to favor politically connected insiders.

Former Yale psychiatrist Dr. Bandy X. Lee testified that Gallina-Mecca engages in “psychic genocide” and “judicial sadism.” In one case, a mother was barred from contact with her children for over a year with no evidentiary hearing. Her courtroom, dubbed a “private abuse factory,” has prompted statewide calls for judicial impeachment.

Despite multiple ethics complaints and lawsuits—including Lee v. Gallina-Mecca—New Jersey’s Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct found “no violation.” Her rulings, however, continue to serve as textbook examples of gender bias and state-sanctioned family destruction. Activists assert that Gallina-Mecca uses her bench to shield financial rackets involving GALs, reunification therapists, and court cronies.
